Howard Levinson, MD, FACS
Dr. Howard Levinson is a performance-driven, board-certified plastic surgeon, internationally recognized leader, and innovator dedicated to integrating cutting-edge technologies and evidence-based techniques into clinical practice. With an entrepreneurial spirit focused on advancing the efficiency and future of medicine, he brings a visionary approach to patient care, multidisciplinary collaboration, and transformative surgical innovation. He is known for inspiring colleagues, building trust across teams, establishing strategic milestones, overcoming challenges, and delivering exceptional outcomes.
With more than 20 years of experience in plastic and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Levinson has held numerous prestigious leadership positions within organized medicine. He is Past President of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the Plastic Surgery Foundation (PSF), Past Chairman of the Plastic Surgery Research Council, and Past President of the World Society of Simulation Surgery. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Wound Healing Society and remains a frequent invited speaker and respected authority worldwide.
Dr. Levinson recently joined the Sentara Health System as Chairman of Plastic Surgery, following his tenure at Duke University Medical Center. He also serves as Chief of Plastic Surgery at Virginia Health Sciences and Co-Chair of the Value Analysis Committee.
In addition to his clinical and academic leadership, Dr. Levinson is a pioneering inventor and active scientist in academic medicine. He founded Deep Blue Medical Advances and currently serves as Chief Medical Officer. He is the creator of the T-Line Mesh and Soft Tissue Fixation System, a revolutionary technology widely used across the United States for abdominoplasty, corset formation, and abdominal wall tightening. The system has been implanted in more than 3,500 procedures with outstanding success.
Dr. Levinson continues to drive innovation through patent development, manuscript authorship, and presentations at national meetings, helping shape the future of plastic surgery through bold creativity, data-driven strategy, and disruptive new product development.
